I am a spa-lover, spa-aficianado, spa-obsesiva, spa-blogger

I love spas. I one day want to live in one. Or in a building that has a spa.

To the spa virgin all spas may look the same. But the more I've progressed on my spa journey, alongside my already fastidious detail-oriented personality, the more I realize there is an art. A lot of things add to the experience.

The perfect spa to me has 2 main things: a perfect relaxation room, and a Jacuzzi. Given I live in NYC the majority of my time, this has been difficult to find. If I find one, I am lacking the other.

Why spas? In this ever-hectic, crazy amped-up city filled with stressed out neurotic New Yorkers who over pay for small living spaces, the spa has been my therapeutic retreat. It is the most efficient way (because yes, we are obsessed with saving time) to get to relaxation. Also, after an admittedly very difficult personal year, I've created a new motto of "the worse the news/times the better you need to treat yourself". And the fastest way to de-stress before an event, deadline, or if I've surpassed my personal mental-emotional limit, is to check into a spa. Plus it is just great, clean, sensual fun that gives yourself the "I'm worth it, I love myself" boost we all need more of.

So yesterday I unplugged and took a "me" day. I checked back into one of my favorite spas that I have been frequenting for the past few years in their older location at the Waldorf Astoria, and now their new location at the Plaza Hotel.

The Guerlain Spa.

While I've coincidentally been using a Guerlain perfume for the last 25 years (I am a loyalist.. once I love something I don't switch it up), that is not the reason I chose this spa. I accidentally came across a voucher on of all sites, travelzoo. I thought, why the heck not? This was several years back when the spa was still at the Waldorf Astoria, and the more luxe a spa the better.

I was skeptical when they moved to the Plaza Hotel. Could it keep the same intimate, cozy, yet pampering atmosphere?

They did away with the dangly chandelier like lights that I loved and gave it a more modern, minimalist vibe. However, they've added in some grey velvet touches. The relaxation room is admittedly small here - I think even smaller than when at the Waldorf. But the couches are oh-so-comfy. And when the spa is empty I've admittedly rolled out on the couches, texted and played video games on my phone while sprawled on my back. I once was so glued to the relaxation room that I ordered dinner there and stayed until closing.

Recently, they've started including these beautiful rose colored chocolate macaroons. I admittedly cleared the tray in the relaxation room... twice.

My aesthetician also works at the Carlyle Hotel's Sisley Spa and did a great job with my facial. I had two glasses of champagne (was part of the package I had bought), and most importantly felt a lot more rejuvenated and calm.

Today, my mind is clearer, I can concentrate at work better, and I feel much better - emotionally and mentally.
